Grand Rapids Woman Killed in La Porte County Crash Rebecca L. Kuiper, 31, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, tragically lost her life in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning, leaving her loved ones and community in deep mourning.

The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the accident occurred near the intersection of County Road 800 South and County Road 900 West, a rural stretch located in southern La Porte County, Indiana. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene shortly after 6 a.m. on June 29, 2025.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered a severely damaged vehicle that had veered off the road and struck a utility pole. Despite their best efforts, Kuiper was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the official cause of the crash, but preliminary findings suggest that wet road conditions and speed may have contributed to the accident. The incident remains under investigation.

Rebecca was known in her Grand Rapids community for her compassionate spirit, infectious smile, and unwavering support of family and friends. A graduate of Grand Valley State University, she had pursued a career in health services, where she touched many lives with her empathy and dedication. She was a passionate advocate for mental health awareness and volunteered regularly with local support groups.

Friends describe her as a light in every room, someone whose warmth could lift anyone’s spirits. Her loss is being deeply felt by all who knew her. She is survived by her parents, siblings, and a close circle of friends who are left to cherish her memory.

A memorial service is being planned in Grand Rapids, with details to be announced in the coming days. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in Rebecca’s honor.
