The community of Midland, Michigan, is mourning the unexpected loss of one of its brightest lights. Eric Joseph D’Amario, aged 42, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at his home after what family members describe as “a brief and unforeseen medical event.” His abrupt departure has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of his family, friends, and colleagues.
Born on December 5, 1982, in Saginaw, Michigan, Eric grew up surrounded by the supportive embrace of his Italian-American family. From an early age, he displayed a natural empathy and innate curiosity, qualities that led him first to volunteer at local soup kitchens during high school and later to pursue a degree in social work at Central Michigan University. As a compassionate student leader, he organized food drives, mentoring programs, and summer camps for underprivileged youth, laying the foundation for a lifetime dedicated to serving others.
After earning his Bachelor of Social Work in 2004, Eric quickly rose through the ranks at the Midland County Department of Human Services. Over the next two decades, he became known for his unwavering commitment to at-risk families, his innovative approach to community outreach, and his talent for rallying volunteers and stakeholders around a common mission. Colleagues often remarked that Eric “lived and breathed” his work, yet always made time to share a laugh, lend an ear, or offer sage advice.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Eric D’Amario was a devoted husband to his high school sweetheart, Lauren (née Connolly), and a proud father to two young daughters, Sophia (10) and Isabella (7). He cherished weekend bike rides along the Tridge, impromptu backyard barbecues, and bedtime storytelling sessions filled with magical adventures. His warm laughter, playful spirit, and gentle guidance shaped the cherished memories his family will carry forward.
Eric’s interests extended far beyond social work. A lifelong musician, he taught himself guitar as a teenager and later formed a small folk-rock band with college friends. He played at local festivals, benefit concerts, and church gatherings, believing that music could heal, inspire, and bring communities together. Those who knew Eric on stage remember his soulful voice, his knack for harmonizing, and the joy he radiated with every chord.
His sudden Michigan death shocked all who knew him. “It’s hard to believe someone so full of life could be gone in an instant,” said Janae Miller, a longtime friend and fellow community advocate. “Eric had plans—big plans—for helping more families, mentoring more youth, and bringing people closer through music and service.”
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 23, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Pinecrest Funeral Home, Midland. A celebration of life service is scheduled for Tuesday, June 24, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, followed by a reception and music tribute in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the “D’Amario Youth Outreach Fund,” established to continue Eric’s passion for supporting at-risk children across Midland County.
Eric D’Amario’s legacy will endure in the dozens of programs he founded, the families he helped stabilize, and the community he inspired to serve with kindness and creativity. Though he dies suddenly, his spirit lives on in every child mentored, every song sung in his memory, and every act of compassion sparked by his example. Michigan has lost an extraordinary advocate and friend, but the seeds Eric planted will continue to grow for generations to come.
