Tinker Air Force Base was briefly locked down this morning following reports of an active shooter. The base’s operations were paused as personnel were evacuated or placed under shelter-in-place orders while security forces swept the premises.
What Happened
Initial reports indicated potential gunfire near or at the base’s gate, prompting heightened security measures. A local sheriff’s deputy—a suspect in a separate shooting incident—drove toward Tinker AFB but exited onto the highway at a gate entry point.
Base officials immediately locked down the facility for safety, conducting full evaluations of perimeter and interior zones.
Investigation Findings
After thorough searches, security forces confirmed that no active shooter was present on the base.
The man involved in the earlier shooting was apprehended upon entering the base’s property and was taken into custody without any breaches inside the installation.
There was no active shooter situation inside Tinker AFB itself.
